Although judging by the success of the fight against the pandemic, 2021 will be the year in which we can expect a return to normal life, the organizers of Sea Star, in agreement with the performers and partners, all to ensure the event is as safe as possible, have postponed the festival to 2022 and confirmed the performances of all the previously announced headliners. Hip-hop legends Cypress Hill followed by Amelie Lens, Meduza, Dubioza Kolektiv and Umek and a host of musicians announced for 2020. Will perform on 27th and 28th May 2022 in the Umag lagoon Stella Maris.
The new festival dates will once again move the start of the tourist season to the end of May and bring fantastic performers that have had Umag written in their calendars for some time on numerous stages, located just a few meters from the sea. One of the most prominent hip-hop groups in history, Cypress Hill, techno superstar Amelie Lens, Italian hit sensation Meduza, the biggest band in the region Dubioza Kolektiv, Slovenian electronic maestro Umek and the biggest rapper in the region, Vojko V are still set to headline the first big festival of the year. Alongside them, attendance was confirmed by Kuku$, Buč Kesidi, Farrago, Tijana T, Insolate, Buntai, Marcel, Andrea Ljekaj, Bronski, DJ Gumja and TRIAD, while more artists will be announced in the coming months.
“After more than a year of festival silence, we had hoped for Sea Star’s return in 2021, but we will have to wait a little longer to see Umag and Istria again. Fortunately, the end of the pandemic is now clearly visible, which will be most obvious when we celebrate life this July at the big celebration of the 20th anniversary of Exit at the Petrovaradin Fortress. We are extremely pleased that we managed to re-book all the headliners for 2022, but that is not the end of the list of names we’ll announce!” – said the EXIT team.
The safety of the audience, performers and staff at the festival and in Umag, as well as open borders, the possibility of travel and the absence of social distancing measures are certainly essential prerequisites for organizing the event. However, since Sea Star is the first major festival of the season, even with the optimism expressed by the Government of the Republic of Croatia regarding the immunisation of the population, an entirely safe event at the end of May cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, the move to 2022 shows a responsible approach from everyone involved in the organisation.
